The Wedding Guys Signature Event

Earlier this year we were graciously introduced to, Bruce Vassar and Matthew Trettel, The Wedding Guys by our dear friend Melissa Landgren from Avant Decor.
Soon we were together having some drinks and we all knew that there was going to be a lot of things to come down the road helping each other and creating phenomenal weddings and event experiences! On May 15th, we kicked everything off with The Wedding Guys annual wedding give away for Kimberly and Paul Jilek in Minneapolis, MN. Months ago Kim and Paul were at The Wedding Guys promotional wedding event and had entered to win the annual free give away signature wedding (more info). Turns out after two other names were drawn for people who were not present, Paul's oddly crumpled up entry was pulled out and the amazing journey towards their wedding day began.

Bruce and Matthew dove in and got to it right away helping them design a wedding they would always remember with everyone most important to them. As the day neared we prepared to be there for everything and capture it in a fresh, fun and cinematic way to have forever. Our experience with The Wedding Guys, Kimberly and Paul was one of the finest we have had, many many people worked with a lot of passion to make everything happen. Here is the highlight reel from the day recap the best moments of the day! We hope you enjoy the experience in a similar way that Kimberly and Paul did.

Click to watch: Kimberly + Paul

Something new that is exciting us:
We are working on a new idea called Forever-TV! This is going to be a place for our VIBs to connect with vendors! Cant say much yet, but hold on to your seat! Its going to be cool! More info to come soon!

Hope you are making it a great day!

It's Getting Hot!

This morning as I typed this Charlie and Jessica gave birth to their new baby girl, Evelyn, congratulations! The office is quite quiet with the dog and cat over at a family friends house since Sunday morning when all the commotion began. Life will never be the same over hear with Evelyn coming home sometime soon. My wife, Katie and I are expecting our twin babies in July but are praying for them to come before all the summer heat gets here (Katie is in the red). As all of this happens I am thankful for the work that we have been blessed with as wedding and event videographers. This is the making of the families that we dearly hope the wedding videos we make get shared with for generations!

As the summer heat and activities ramp up and up and up we are doing the same for all of the engaged couples whose wedding dates are on our calendar. This summer is going to be unlike any other, truly one to remember and have on video. Just like a wedding, so much of our lives only happen once and are highly anticipated for days and days and days and then quickly are over with. I truly believe that capturing these moments to remember enriches our lives in ways that not too long ago was not even possible. Get out and enjoy the summer, even the heat!

Sunny with a chance of a baby

I am on week 4 of my newly found excitement for running. What is so funny about the whole thing is that I and NOT a runner. What I mean by that is: I grew up HATING running. The mile at school was enough to make me fake a sick day. What is even more funny is that I am now 4 weeks into running at least 5 days a week. Something about having your wife 9 months pregnant, and seeing you life take a major turn in a direction you never are REALLY ready for...is enough to make a guy do something drastic...like start a habit...running. Nala our German Shepherd puppy who is now almost 10 months old is a GREAT running companion. She helps me a lot.

Ok, so that is enough about my personal life... for now.

Mike and I are blown away by the number of bookings that are coming in. We are so excited to be making so many new friends. It is so amazing to meet people who are in love with our work. We have had calls about everything from a traditional wedding in Washington DC, to a wedding during a marathon in Las Vegas, to a sunny getaway wedding to Hawaii. If you would have asked me one year ago, I would never would have guessed we would be facing a decision between shooting on the beach in Hawaii, or under the night lights of Vegas. Truly amazing. It just goes to show that passion drives everything! I am so passionate about wedding video. I am so passionate about marriage...I think people are catching on :)

This Saturday, we are shooting a training run for a wonderful non profit that puts on the Minneapolis Marathon, then we head to Downtown Minneapolis to Shoot a wedding for "The Wedding Guys' Ultimate Wedding giveaway"! How exciting. We get to spend the WHOLE day with Bruce and Matthew, shooting the wedding of any woman's dream.

A Video we did for Team Ortho featuring Mayor Phil Young of Eden Prairie, MN

Aside from all that, Jessica is due any day. We are having a homebirth, so we are really on standby. We are both so excited to meet our baby. It is a weird feeling. Hard to really even imagine what it will be like.

Thats it for now

A fun new idea

So I am on my second week of working out again. I must admit, there was a good 3 months where I did not exercise at all. Getting back into the routine is not easy. The fact that the weather has been nice, and I have a large dog that needs exercise on a regular basis, has helped. Getting a new habit going again is still a challenge.

In the tough economy that we live in, Mike and I have been working to be more flexible in everything we do. Over the last couple months we have come out with some new programs that make video affordable for anyone. For weddings we rolled out the "Forever Films Preservation Package". It allows a couple to have us come shoot the wedding just like we normally would, but we save all the raw footage for editing at a later date. It helps soften the cost initially to the couple. The preservation package starts at about $1,299 where our popular signature packages would normally start at $2,500. the "Forever Films Preservation Package" is a great way to still get the memories preserved without the need for a higher budget. However we always encourage our "Forever Films Signature Package"...Its just not always in the budget.

Mike and I are always thinking... The latest development we have been working on is our corporate work. We do great videos for companies, but just like everyone else, sometimes paying upwards of $3,000 just is not in the cards for some businesses. That is why we are working on developing a program that will allow a business to have an HD video put right on their website, and social marketing sites with little or no upfront costs, and a small fee of $40-100 per month ongoing. Think of it as a cell phone plan for your videos. Easy, quick, affordable. We have chosen a few names and we are looking for feedback on what you like the most.
Here are the choices for the program name:
1. VideoReach
2. LiveCast
3. Corporate Cast
4. EasyReach
5. VideoCom
6. YouReach
7. Send a suggestion you think of... :)

We would love your feedback. Send us your favorite to Charles@EideCom.com
Til next time...

What a day!

Some times it is nice to get out of the office for a day to go out and make new friends and do different things. This morning Mike and I showed up to the office and decided to do just that. We headed to St. Paul and had a ton of Fun. We met some new friends at Jaclyn Elizabeth Events . It was so much fun! We got to see how Jaclyn, Amanda and her team design the wedding of a lifetime. They were so welcoming and fun! I can't wait to see them again. If you are looking for the right people to design your wedding or event, check them out. You wont regret it.

After we made some new friends, Mike and I stopped at a great restaurant on Grand Ave. The food was great. I like having lunch at a new place. The food was from somewhere I have never been.

The last thing we did was talk to a woman who has a German Shepherd just like ours, except a long haired.

Anyhow, A day out of the office was great.
see you soon.

New Videos, and The Wedding Guys?!

I was standing in the kitchen this morning getting ready to walk out the door, and caught myself staring at Jessica's ever expanding pregnant belly. Today she is 33 weeks pregnant. We are having a baby Girl. She is due on May 28th, and time is not slowing down. It is amazing how fast life moves sometimes. I remember the day i met Jessica 3 year ago this Easter Sunday like it was yesterday. Enough about me...

Last week we had the good fortune to meet "The Wedding Guys". Bruce and Matthew are two of the best in the wedding business. Not only was it a delight to meet them, but also to learn about how they got started. Bruce and Matthew have jumped onto the national wedding scene doing some pretty incredible things. They are now expanding into Atlanta, and Dallas. After meeting with them, Mike and I were convinced that we have to partner up with them. It is so fun to make new friends. We look forward to a future relationship with Bruce and Matthew. With their talent, and our ability to capture their work, there is no stopping us.

If you did not know already, We are working on a video contest for FreeEnterprise.com
We partnered up with Katie Kieffer of KatieKieffer.com, and created a piece about Free Enterprise and its impact on our world in America. Have a watch and let me know your thoughts. Also, Check out Katie's Blog. It is a thought provoking, pro business website that is very entertaining and enlightening. A big thanks to Katie for believing in us.

Video is forever

Living in Minnesota is so interesting. Just when I was getting used to the freezing cold, dry weather...it starts to warm up. I think the reason spring in Minnesota is so great is because we live in hibernation of 5 months and finally when the sun comes out, it is wonderful in contrast to the terrible traumatic winter we just had. When I let Nala (our German shepherd) out in the morning, I can now stand on the front step in a t-shirt for about 35 seconds now. In the winter I can not bear to stand by the open door, let alone step out to yell for the dog. Enough about winter. I talk about it a lot. Sorry.

This is Nala trying to get a drink of water in the tub.

Fun fact
Video production is my life. Forrester research says that you are 52% more likely to show up on google with video. I want you to leave a comment on the blog if you agree at all with this statement: everyone loves good video online. Just a thought.

Planning the wedding
On Sunday we were at the Minnesota Landscape arboretum in Chanhassen, MN (http://www.arboretum.umn.edu/weddings.aspx) for their wedding fair. I love wedding fairs because you meet so many people from ALL walks of life. Some are fun to talk with, some are NOT. It is so funny: the first question is "how much does it cost". I am not sure if that is just an instinct or what. Is price the MOST important part of your day? I mean i can make the price $1 and hand you a blank DVD...is that what you are looking for? I don't think so. We are looking for the couple that is searching for a company that will do things right, treat them well, and provide them with a final product that is PRICELESS. Imagine stumbling into your grandmothers attic and found their wedding video. Would it have a price? Would you sell it for spare cash on Ebay? I think when we are in the moment planning, and it is all about the dollar, we need to consider the future. When you put the venue and food at the top of the budget and video at the bottom, are your priorities in proper order? I would say no. People forget where you got married (without video). People forget the food (sometimes the most money is spent on the food). WHY? Because we live in the now and not the future. My suggestion is make your budget in proportion to importance. Book videography FIRST. Book Photography second. Then move on to the temporary details. I know I am biased, but doesn't it make sense?

New video to watch
So yesterday I sat down to edit Hillary and Nate's teaser. Mike and I went out and shot their footage last week at the Minneapolis sculpture garden. It was such a cool place to shoot a life video. It's funny because when you are there shooting, it does not seem all that great. I usually get back to the studio, start editing and think "wow that was cool!"
Anyhow have a watch at the final Teaser. The teaser is an opening to their life video that they will play at the reception of their wedding. EXCITING.

Watch and enjoy. If you know someone getting married, pass our name along. :)

Two new videos for you

I can not explain the feeling when a new video is finished and ready to share with friends.
The first video (Nate and Hilary) was shot by Mike Danielson, and I did the editing. They were a blast. The wedding should be even better. And you thought it could not get any better...

A quick tip: Make sure your speakers are turned up before you hit play!

Futureproof

I was up until 1 am last night finishing some DVD's and Blu-Rays that we are delivering today. I always get so excited to put the finished product in the hands of anxious newlyweds. There is something exciting about getting a phone call the next day saying "oh my goodness, this is the best thing that came from our wedding day. What would we have done without this..". Its funny: when you have something you can not live without, but never knew existed before...I remember when nobody had a cell phone. Now EVERYONE has one and can not leave home without it.

I was thinking...In today's fast paced culture where a new computer is considered an antique in 3 months, DVD is going to Blu-Ray and we get a new cell phone every 6 months, it is hard to stay "current". It started with Flat screen tube Tv's, then moved to the $10,000 plasma tv's then LCD then HD then LED, now 3D in HD. HOW ON EARTH DO WE EVER KEEP UP?!? When Blu- Ray first came out, I thought " how could ANYTHING be better than DVD?" When I saw Blu-Ray, I had to have it. Now a regular DVD just doesn't to it for me...

Blah Blah Blah...techie talk could go on for hours...

The reason I titled todays blog Futureproof is because I want to make a point about your wedding video. If you got married in the 90's or even later, you probbly have your wedding on tape. Now you have to have it put on DVD. Whats next?!

So to prevent this conundrum from ever happening we provide you the digital video files of all the finished segments on a hard drive of your choice. That means if DVD, Blu-Ray or anything else is obsolete, your wedding is not. Pretty cool huh?

What does this all mean? It means when Forever Films shoots your wedding, you will never ever have to deal with this confusing mess EVER.

Remember if you love our work, Share it.
See you soon,

Charles

The Movie Fireproof

It was probably a year and a half ago when Mike (my best friend and business partner) said casually "hey, you should go see that movie Fireproof". At the time, I was in fact a firefighter for the city I lived in at the time, so I noted it in my mind to go see it sometime. I did not think much of it, and had not even heard of the movie.  It then came up a couple weeks later when Jessica and I had a date night, went to the theatre and it was still playing. We decided to go see the movie. All I can say at this point is that the movie changed my perspective on marriage and relationships forever. "Fireproof" was written by two brothers (Stephen and Alex Kendrick) in ministry with a church called Sherwood Baptist church (http://sherwoodbaptist.net). They had also done the movie "Facing the Giants" (http://www.facingthegiants.com/home.php) which was a movie that blew me away.
I am not sure why you go to movies, but most people go for entertainment and maybe a good message. When Jessica and I sat down in the theatre to watch "Fireproof" we did not expect to learn life lessons. By the time the movie was over, we were wrecked. It changed my perspective on everything. Not only was it full of humor, action, romance and drama, it had a life lesson worth learning. To say the least, it is defiantly on my list of all time best movies ever.
Mike and I had a serious conversation last week about the future of Forever Films. We spent a good amount of time taking about what we want to do with Forever Films, what we stand for, what we are all about, what we do, and what we do NOT do. This is not a post to explain those things. What I will share with you now, is what I believe to be one of the best ideas we have come up with to this day. In every package we do, when we ship the final product to the newlyweds, we will include a full length copy of the movie "Fireproof". Mike and I want our wedding films and videography to be a tool that honors marriage, and helps couples see the power and commitment they have had for each other. I finally got the guts to email Alex Kendrick today. He was the Director/ Writer/ Producer of "Fireproof". I have not heard back from him, but who knows, maybe I will...

If we have not and will not be doing your wedding film (because you are already married or for some other reason) go out and BUY a copy of the movie (http://fireproofthemovie.com/) (http://www.marketamerica.com/jessicadennison/affiliate-34683908/fireprooffacing-the-giantsflywheel-3_discs_.htm). I highly recommend it. If you are married, single or dating... it is sure to impress you. If we are doing your wedding, buckle your seatbelt, you are in for a real treat...

Thats it for today.

Be blessed,
Charles

Written goals come to life

I woke up this morning to another cold winter day here in Minnesota. It is nice because I live close to Minneapolis with out living in it. I let Nala(our 7 moth old 50 pound German Shepherd "puppy") out to do her normal morning routine. I soon realized she was dancing. I was confused. I though "why is she doing that". I soon realized that the ground is so cold that it was hurting her feet. Wow. It is way too cold for way too long here.
This has been an incredible week. On Monday, Mike and I checked off of our list, the final goal we have had on our white board for over a year. We went to Micro Center (a computer store here http://www.Microcenter.com) and purchased all of the components to make a new editing machine. 8 hours later and much frustration after building our first computer, we had finished assembling the baddest, meanest, most powerful editing computer alive(to us). It has 12 gigs of ram, 9.5 terabytes of hard drive space, a Blu-ray burner, and a whole lot more good stuff I don't understand. Needless to say, editing has been a lot more fun, and fast paced the past couple days.
Yesterday I went flying (in a small private airplane) with a good friend. Tim is in aircraft sales and can take me flying anytime I want to go. I don't know if I have mentioned this but I have my private pilot's license. I got it when I was 18. It has been a while since I have been up, so yesterday was a real treat.
Today I spoke with Sherwood pictures (http://www.sherwoodpictures.com/). They are the group that made the movie "Fireproof" and "Facing the Giants". We are in talks to put a copy of "Fireproof" in every package we deliver. We feel it is such a great movie and a perfect movie to start out as newlyweds. So if we do your wedding film, chances are you will get a copy of the movie in your final package.

On to the title of today's blog: Write down your goals. We have accomplished ALL of our purchasing goals just one short year after writing them down. We could not have done it without written goals. Mike and I just added a new goal to the list. An Airplane. We want to travel the country shooting wedding films in our own Forever Films company airplane. Nothing Fancy just a propeller plane. How fun! I can not stand commercial air travel. Crazy huh? We don't think so. After all: we have now written it down.

Charles
It has been an incredible week.

Winter wonderland wedding

It is funny. Every time I type the word "Videography" it puts the little red squiggly lines under it. I think I am starting to develop a paranoia of poor spelling. I am not sure if Videography is not a real word, or if someone just forgot to add it to the dictionary. At any rate, I think I will just add it myself.

I think hard about the word videography and how it relates to the wedding business. I must admit, before I started doing wedding films, I thought of wedding videography as a cheap, cheesey boring video of you wedding. I don't know about you, but I think this is the case for many people. In some cases, the bride or the groom has to plead to their fiance to have video. What blows me away is that everytime we deliver it, the "skeptic" contacts us and says the same thing. The words change a little bit, but the message is the same: "I had no idea...i am so sorry I was against this in the beginning". Now they have another reason to be happy they married the person they did!

Mike and I have spent a good amount of time today talking about the future of Forever Films. We have many great things on the horizon. Many weddings for 2010 already booked. We have started to grow our staff, and enjoyed every minute of it. David Fink (a local film maker) is joining our team! He has an incredible talent for doing what he does. David and I shot a beautiful wedding at "the Outing Lodge" in Stillwater, MN last weekend. The Bride was stunning, the groom was happy as ever, and it was a GREAT time. We used our new Glidecam to shoot the wedding, and I must say, the footage is amazing. I can not wait to get working on this project! I will say, I had a blast with award winning photographer, Chloe and her husband Brant. The photos will be amazing. Also I must mention that the planner Danielle was wonderful. She truley impressed us. I do not think the day would have been such an overwhelming success without Danielle. If you are planning a wedding HIRE A PLANNER. They are invaluable. They save more than they cost.

On to the part that I am very excited about: we just got asked to be featured in Maple Grove Magazine. We were contacted by the editor yesterday, and they want to feature us in their September issue. It may seem like a ways away, but we do the interview in May. WOW! I must say, it makes me a little nervous to be interviewed for something like this. We have never been published in an article before...it makes me smile just writing about it...

Although I could probably blog all day, I must get back to working.

Until next time,

Charles

Choosing a great photographer...

Planning a wedding is a serious undertaking. The ammount of time it takes to plan the average wedding, is daunting. One of the cornerstones of remembering your special day (aside from Forever Films shooting your wedding) is finding the right photographer. When I say the RIGHT photographer, I mean a photographer who's work you love. This being said, everyone is different. Some people like a photo-journalistic style while others may like a more traditional classic style, and some...don't know the difference and just want a the best "deal". When it comes to remembering your big wedding day, I suggest you analyze your budget and put the money where you feel it is most important. I always say that "you can get a good meal any night of the week". What I mean by this is that although food is a very important aspect of the day (for the guest), does that justify blowing 80-90% of your budget on a meal that  is gone forever in 45 minutes? I have always been a real advocate of putting the money where it lasts the longest. In the case of a wedding that would be your Videography and your photography. These are things that last Forever, unlike a meal or flowers... So, what is important to you?
Over the years shooting weddings we have worked along side many photographers. Just like anything, there are some that are great to work with, and some that are not so fun. This being said, I suggest you choose a photographer that you like...as a person. I suggest you choose someone willing to be flexible with the way YOU want things done. There are SO many photographers out there that do things the same way every time without consideration to your wishes. Pick a photographer is flexible and puts YOU first. I have been on shoots and wondered if the photographer thinks he/she IS the bride....bad deal. Choosing the right photographer determines the pictures that will be on your walls for a LONG TIME. There are SO many wonderful photographers out there. Do not settle if you do not like the one you are talking to. For a few GREAT references below, and on our website.
Mike and I had the most wonderful coffee appointment with one of the best photographers we know. Before I go any further, I will tell you, I have not ever featured a photographer in my blog before. I say this because we have worked with her. Maribeth at Red Ribbon Studios in Minneapolis, MN is the real deal. When I asked her "What is your ideal bride" she made it clear that she only wants to work with people who really want to work with her....What a rock-star. Her work is very photo-journalistic. She catches the action as it happens. It comes from a background of shooting anything from news stories to high-end weddings. She has been featured in Martha Stewart weddings, and also has appeared in many other major publications. The best part is...she is a total sweetheart. If you want to meet someone who is passionate about every minute of work she does, Maribeth is it. I have witnessed firsthand the fun, passion and professionalism (not to mention the amazing photos) she exhibits. If you are looking for the best, look no more. You can find Maribeth and Red Ribbon Studios at http://redribbonstudio.com/ Here you can view her work, and get in touch with her for bookings.

Below is the Highlight video from the wedding we shot with Maribeth. Enjoy!

Cleaning the cameras...

I always have my eye on new equipment. I think it is a good thing to stay on top of the newest products and trends to keep our work the best it can be. At at a certain point it really just comes down to raw talent. You can have the best gear in the world but if your hand shakes...you get my point. So anyhow we just got a Glidecam! I am very excited about this. It is a device that makes moving shots beautiful! It works by using counterweights to make the camera balance better. Blah Blah Techie talk.... It is HEAVY. I am going to need to start lifting weights just to hold onto this thing. I have been practicing with it, and it really does work!
We were cleaning the cameras today. It is fun to sit down and check them out. A good inspection has proven to be a good thing! We are shooting a wedding this weekend, and I wanted to make sure the lenses were nice and clean! We found out that the wedding we are shooting could be featured in a magazine! Wow how cool would that be...

I know this has been a boring blog, but it is all I had today! I hope you enjoy your day!

A whole new life.

In today's fast pace society where we hardly have time to stop and thing about anything, I sit back and look at the amazing things around me. I look at my family, I look at my business, I look at everything around and it is hard not to be thankful of it all. It makes me think about when I got married. Going to weddings on a regular basis as a way of life (as a wedding film maker) I sometimes find even I take the moment for granted. The day Jessica and I got married was the single most important day that I remember. Much more powerful than graduation, school, confirmation, or any other moment in my life. I think about what a whole new world I live in now, because of Jessica. It makes me think about the beginning  of a new life that I get to witness and capture on camera. That moment when the Pastor or Priest says " I now pronounce you man and wife". That eternal bond. That love. That excitment. Sometimes because I am so caught up in the midst of filming it, I forget how amazing it is to be able to preserve that precious moment it time that will never happen again. I must admit: every time I sit down to edit a new film, I have a 5-10 minute time where I am in absolute awe of how powerful that moment is. EVERY TIME. I insist that I edit all of our work (at least at this point) because of the power and beauty of of that experience.

It all comes back to marriage. We preserve the most pure relationship, the most powerfull bond known to human kind. Marriage is the ultimate committment. Marriage is the ultimate sacrifice. Marriage is the ultimate gift of life. If you are married and reading this, take the time to thank your husband or wife today. Thank them for loving you.

Join our list! On the blog, you see the mailing list entry on the left. Enter! We will not bother you all the time, but it is nice to know who is reading...Also, follow us! We would love to have you!

Ok enough plugging our new form submission toy...

Back in mid December, we had the opportunity to shoot a wedding at the Fine Line music cafe in Downtown Minneapolis, MN. The Fine Line is a well known spot where artists from John Mayer and Jack Johnson to Lady Gaga and Ke$ha have played. It was the most unique wedding we have ever shot. I am in the midst of editing this wedding right now, and I must say...It was a blast. Toni and Larry decided that they wanted a local folk band to play before, during, and after the ceremony! It was great because the ceremony was broken up with songs, readings and other elements of a wedding, just in a concert-like setting. Way cool. Another thing we are doing for them is taking all of the music from the night and creating a custom CD set. This way they can pop in the music from their special day any time. Way Fun and way unique!

On a different note, I can not believe that it is not even the end of January, and our 2010 calendar nearly booked! We have weddings all over Minnesota, California and even Virginia! Wow! If you would have asked me a year ago if we would be traveling the country shooting weddings, I would have laughed at you! Today it is a reality. On Tuesday, I wrote about how booking out of state is no big deal. That is proving to be true. So many people use the internet to find the work they love, and if it happens to be 1,000 miles away, we just get on a plane. I am really blow away by how small the world is becoming.

A note to all who read this: Share our website with everyone! It is great entertainment to watch.

Until next time

Booking out of state...

I woke up this morning to the sound of workers outside putting salt on my path and driveway. I though to myself: it did not snow...why are there people hastily working to get salt out? Then it occurred to me that THERE IS a SNOWSTORM on the way! Ahh. Just when I thought it would let up, and I would wash the salt residue off my car...enough ranting...
Next week I am headed to Miami (thank goodness) for a couple days. I am really looking forward to the brief amount of sunshine I will get. This brings me to the topic of shooting out of state. Due to the Internet's vast reach, finding a videographer or videography company that you love that is out of state, is not an uncommon thing. Many times we get calls and emails saying "oh I would love to hire forever films but I did not know you were not in my state. Is that a problem?". Our reply is often "not a problem at all." Often times I think the understanding is that if you are out of state, you are out of reach. That is definitely not the case. When you get married, people come in from all over the place, including out of state. So...is it so weird to have your photographer or videographer do the same? The cost of travel is so low, and anywhere in the country is nearly a 3 hour plane ride away...so...should you be afraid to book out of state? Absolutely not. If you fall in love with the work of someone who is not within a 20minute drive, fear not. The world is getting smaller by the day. So go ahead, hire that guy who looks like Fabio that flies in from Key West to shoot...or you could call us at forever films. We would love to come capture the big day. No matter where it is...

Winter weekend

I can only speculate that winter in Minnesota is no different than living in  Antarctica for 6-8 months EVERY YEAR. Please do not misunderstand that statement. I love Minnesota for the great people, the gorgeous summers, the lakes, and of course my family. I will say that if I had not been born here, I would not ever live here. Another great thing is that we are somewhat in the middle of the country (everywhere in the USA is 2-3 hours max). As I have said before, I love where I live, but I am getting sick of being inside so much.

On a different note: The wedding film business is so much fun! I will say one GREAT thing about Minnesota is our brides and grooms are all so friendly. "Minnesota nice", I guess. We have been booking more and more weddings out of state. It is a lot of fun to hop on a plane, shoot the most perfect day of a couple's life, see places I have never seen, and come home with new friends in different corners of the country.

I have been thinking: I have never blogged and this blog is attached to our website...I see other videographers and wedding film makers write blogs about videography and their business. I just do not see how I could write every single day about being a videographer.
So...BE advised: I don't really know what I am doing (in writing a blog). Put a camera in my hand any day of the week and I am in my element, but blogging? This is going to take some practice...Bear with me.

Following your passion?!

I was on facebook this afternoon looking at all the wall posts of things that my friends think are interesting. I came across a link to a video that inspired me. A guy named Gary Vayerchuk started a video blog online that is all about wine. www.WineLibrary.com . It was a youtube video of him speaking at a conference in 2008. It is too bad that it took this long for me to find this video. Gary (a younger, energetic wine connoisseur) outlined how in today's world, we HAVE to follow our passions. What he means is DO SOMETHING that you love, and you WILL make a living at it.
It makes me think: back at the turn of the century (1900) the majority of people owned some sort of business, and very few worked for them. Today however, it is just the opposite. I think we spend too much time doing things we hate, and do not spend our time on what we are passionate about. In the age of the internet, it is so easy to get distracted with the constant noise...checking email 200 times a day, answering the phone whenever it rings, abusing the information we have available today. I just think, What would life be like, if we all followed our passion? My guess is the world would be a happier place. Relationships would flourish, and personal contact would be different. I was having a convorsation with someone close to me (not immediate family) and i realized, the entire time she was on her phone talking to someone else... can we EVER just be where we are?? What is even more funny is coming to terms with the fact that I am guilty of the same...on a regular basis. Not good. So....What does this have to do with wedding videography? I dont know. I guess it means that I do it because I love it, and not because it is just a job. I guess I would not be doing it if I did not have a passion for it. I love wedding films. I am obsessed. I catch my self watching others work...sometimes too much. Thats all for now...

Engaged.

Engaged. It is an interesting word. It seems that the more time that goes by, the more friends get engaged and married. I am starting to feel old. It is such an interesting term. Engaged. In the world of wedding films, "engaged" is such a bliss full word. SO many exciting new things to experience and do. It is funny because when I meet people that are an item, but not engaged or married, I naturally think "well what the heck are you waiting for..." I find that girls are much more interested in getting engaged, and guys are a little more conservative. Sometimes I think too conservative. Now, I am NOT saying that if you are in a relationship you should just get engaged. It is a serious commitment that lasts FOREVER. Ahhhh...THATS why we named it FOREVER FILMS.  Anyhow, it is just something that has been on my mind. I must admit: when I find out someone is engaged, it is a bit difficult to hold back the obvious "you should really look at our work" feeling. I just love shooting weddings and can not help but think about it all the time. More dicipline to practice.... I guess it is part of being a human. Another day of blogging done. I know that if nobody but Jessica and my mom Vicki (who seem to be my only fans) read this, it will be fun for me to look back on. If you are reading this, say hi sometime. It would be nice if you would recriprocate. :)

Just another day?

It is 11:56am on a Tuesday morning. I woke up, let Nala (our 6 month old german shepherd puppy) out, and did my normal routine which consists of taking my vitamins, eating a healthy breakfast, and getting prepared for work.
When I got to the office i was thinking about a great book I have been reading that talks about how we abuse information today. How we have phones and email interrupting our important work tasks all day long. It went on to talk about how being productive is not about checking your email 150 times a day, answering every phone call and having everyday be broken up by distraction. So...I am trying something new. In efforts to be more productive during my time I am changing just one thing. I am disabling the NEW EMAIL alert sound, and checking my email only 2 times a day. I am on day 3 of this experiment. I am learning how HARD to just say no to my urge to look at my email every 3 minutes. I knew discipline was hard, but this is beyond discipline.. its more like a change in lifestyle. Why am i writing this? I don't know. I am trying to keep up with my committment to blog.

Forever Films is on it's 2nd day with a new website. I can't help but be anxious to know if people like it... If you have had a look at the new site and like it, let me know. ForeverFilmStudios.com is the address. My email is Charles@EideCom.com I would love your feedback. But don't expect an immediate reply :)

If you are in Minnesota, Stay warm today.

Up really late

Up late. Just got done reading the Videomaker Magazine that came in the mail today. I can not believe how fast time goes when you are reading something interesting. They had a great article about wedding videography. It was great to say the least.

Anyhow, It is 1:14am. I am sitting up in bed because I can not sleep. We launched our new Forever Films website today, and things are really happening. I love what I do. I love the people I work with, I do NOT love having a har time winding down at night.

Jessica is 20 weeks pregnant now. This Thursday we find out if it is a boy or a girl. We took an online test that says it is a boy. I am hoping so...however we will be thrilled either way. This is our first. We are new to the whole process and are loving it all.

Jessica and I have been spending a lot of time together lately. It is really nice. Recently we discovered the show "Lost" on Netflix. It is SO addicting. We are halfway thru the first season. I can not believe I did not get into this earlier...Netflix sure makes it nice, we stream the video in HD to my laptop, or our TV. WOW how do they do that. You could be a full time couch potato...if only you could make a living watching "lost" on netflix.

Okay I am sure no body is reading this now, and I am just rambling. I am trying to be consistent writing in my blog but it is such a tough habit to form. Who even reads this stuff?! I know, I know, it is the hip new popular thing to do, but I am just struggling to get into the habit. Plus I am terrible at spelling. Thank goodness for spell check(the little red squiggly lines), Mike and Jessica to watch my back for spelling and grammar boo boos. They are my editors i guess...

Enough rambling. Time to attempt to sleep.

Why Minnesota?

As most people know, Minnesota is known for its incredible summers. Lakes, boating, sunshine...What they fail to mention is that in the winter you wake up to an outside temperature of 17 degrees BELOW ZERO. -17degrees Fahrenheit less thank "brisk" or "refreshing". It is Painful.

Enough ranting about the weather...

Mike and I are working hard getting our new website off the ground today. It is beautiful and has a new theater section that is a bunch of fun! We have shot a few GREAT weddings in the past couple weeks. One was for two police officers in a local town. They were so much fun. They had a Huge wedding party too...Congrats again to Kevin and Kenna!

Back in December we had the opportunity to shoot a wedding at the Fine Line in downtown Minneapolis. Larry and Toni were great. They had a popular folk band play at and during the ceremony. It was a blast.

Anyhow, We are working hard, having fun creating memories for you!,

Until next time,

Charles

Vogel/Gonzales Wedding

What a weekend! I have never been to a reception with as much dancing and fun loving people... With nearly 200 people coming in town for Trisha and Danny from all over the place, California, and Kansas, to Canada and Florida. I have to tell you about a dance that they Benedictan school friends organized called "kiss the girl"

It started with two chairs about 15 feet apart on the dance floor, one with Danny sitting in it and across the floor Trisha in the other. The DJ hit play on Little Mermaids', "Kiss the girl" and all of a sudden everyone broke out in chorus dancing around Danny and Trish belting out at the top of their lungs this song... the cutest part of it all was every time the refrain came around they moved the chairs that Danny and Trish were sitting in closer together, you can just imagine all of this... and i was lucky enough to be capturing all of this on video! Just at the end of the song did the chairs come together for Danny and Trish to kiss each other like they had been wanting to the entire song... this was definitely the highlight of the dancing without a doubt.

I am so thrilled and blessed to have been able to capture these and many other memories for Danny and Trisha to look back on weeks or even years from now... I know that when they do so, it will be with big smiles :)

Until next time... peace and blessings!

Another day in paradise

So it is Thursday, and we are working hard to come up with some new corporate clients today. Mike and I have been in the office for the last 3 hours working on brainstorming where to go. We have been working on a number of great projects and want to share our skill with the corporate sector. We are know for our amazing wedding videos, and our approach to cinematic video production, so we want to do the same with company marketing. We are working hard to come up with ideas of companies that want to use the internet to market them selves better. Video is the way to go! So if you know anybody looking to have some AMAZING videos done, look no further. Epic Studios and Forever films is the only choice in video production....
Ok enough of the commercials...I am having a GREAT day here in the studio working on more marketing...if you have any ideas, drop me a line or write in our blog.

Wedding Weekend!

My job isn't really a job... Saturday's shoot with Jeff and Trisha was full of sunshine, fun and everyone smiling! A better day couldn't have been ordered for their wedding. The ceremony was as intimate as any I have been to. Before,I was able to spend some time with the groomsmen as they got ready and got to listen to stories from years past shared and many a jokes! Jeff no doubt has a real solid group of guys around him. More than anything it is an indication of the type of person he is... more times than I can count people said to me that Jeff is the most generous person they know. He has got a smile and easy-going attitude people want to be around, Trisha is one lucky woman!

We are going to get started on the edit for this beautiful project and will be posting frequently about how is comes along. Next is Jeff and Trisha's choice for the music we will be editing to.

Another beautiful day at Forever Films

So today is a beautiful day here in Minnesota. It is Friday in mid July and if you have never been to Minnesota in the summer, it is gorgeous. I am excited because I am preparing for Jeff Robinson's wedding that we are shooting video for tomorrow. We are going to be shooting in High Definition. We will be shooting him and his beautiful bride in gorgeous 720. We are preparing the cameras, data cards, and the lighting for this.
As a side note, it is interesting because I find myself getting excited to shoot and edit. I feel like every day, I learn something new, and get all excited again. I love learning from the work of other videographers in the industry. I just found out about a conference and training that is coming up this January that is going to be put on by some of the best film makers in the wedding video industry.

As the editor for Forever Films, I find my self getting excited when the raw footage comes in from a new wedding, and I get to turn it into a masterpiece! I never saw myself getting so into editing.

Right now Mike is on the phone talking to Panasonic about the cameras we use. We are re programming the cameras to have new scene files which will allow the camera to do much more. We want to have a more diverse ability to change our look on the fly. The cameras we use are Panasonic HVX-200s. The great thing about these cameras is that they are so reliable, and versatile. There is no better camera for wedding videography.

So that is it for the day! See you soon
